A career diplomat, Ambassador Ghassan Muhsen excels as an artist with over 21 solo exhibitions and over 40 joint shows in four continents ranging from New Delhi to New York, from Dubai to Tunis.
Born in Nassiriyah Iraq in 1945, Muhsen’s early life was that of constant change of scenery. The son of an army officer, his early life was spent traveling to different parts of Iraq exposing the artist to the different geographies, peoples, colors and architecture of Iraq.
Joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muhsen was able to work within a field that fed his love of travel and learning of other countries and cultures. While posted in New York in the 1970’s his artistic spirit surfaced. New York’s vibrant cultural scene, art world, museums, people and architecture influenced him to the point where he took up oil paints and canvas and started painting in a formal fashion. His creativity was heavily influenced by his surroundings, so in his next posting to Pakistan, he was introduced to floral influences as well as the traditional art of the Indian Sub-Continent.
His art has been accquired and displayed all over the globe, is used to decorate public spaces and is part of some corporate collections. He passed away in 2016, but his message and art live on.
