Born in Gabes, Tunisia, Abderrazak Hamouda has had a lifelong interest in art. After secondary school he left Tunisia for Paris and in 1984 upon completing university studies in English, Arab and Persian literature, he decided to make his home in Geneva, Switzerland. As a practicing calligraphy artist since 1981, he has undertaken a series of exhibitions, workshops, and lectures in Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Bahrain, the Emirates and Saudi Arabia. He created in his native city of Gabes, Dar Al Founoun a space dedicated to art and calligraphy. His works today are widely known and appreciated. Abderrazak Hamouda is an artist whose art serves as a message of love, liberty, equality, dialogue among civilizations and respect for others.
He likes to say that his works are his legacy, and that through them his state of mind, his thoughts and his views can be read and understood. Calligraphy, he tells us, is an art of precision and intellectual sincerity, requiring considerable mental and physical endurance in order to master movement and breathing simultaneously.
