Abbas Al Mossawi is a renowned artist and peace activist based in Bahrain. Largely self-taught, his immense body of work spans nearly three decades and has afforded him an enviable reputation as one of the region’s most prolific creative voices. Five minutes spent in Al Mossawi’s company is enough to understand the artist’s driving forces. He speaks of his love of nature with great passion. His determination to help others see what’s around them is clear. If there is a theme that transcends his separate bodies of work ‘celebratory’ probably comes closest to describing it. Contemplation exists in most of his output; the search for harmony is apparent somewhere in all.
Al Mossawi’s work features in major collections nationally and internationally, including the National Museum of Bahrain and The United Nations, Geneva, as well as private and museum collections around the world. He has received numerous awards and accolades and is the founder of the Bahrain Art Society, a not-for-profit organisation that serves to nurture and promote arts and culture in the region and further afield.
