ArtBahrain 2015 | The International Art Fair13 Oct – 16 Oct 2015
Held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the region’s newest contemporary art fair was designed to promote local talent. The fair was curated by Kaneka Subberwal and showcased the following art disciplines:
British artist Sacha Jafri created a special painting in just under eight hours, called “The Soul of Bahrain”. He dedicated it to the Patron of ArtBahrain 2015, Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW).
Jafri painted it in the tent set up at the ArtBahrain Expo in the presence of participating world artists, crowds of visitors and correspondents of local and foreign newspapers and news agencies.
Born in London in 1977 to an Indian/English father and French/English mother, Sacha Jafri graduated from Eton College in 1995, and obtained his MA from Oxford University in 1999. Since then, he has been widely respected for being among the most famous and influential artists all over the word.
The Speaker’s Panel and Education Programme saw the participation of artists Nja Mahdaoui (Tunisia), Rachid Koraichi (Algeria) and Zoulikha Bouabdellah (Algeria). There were panel discussions and workshops that provided opportunities to learn more about curating, collecting and investing in art.
